Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) is a unique and complex source of nutrition linked to autoimmune boosting benefits. Chaga is an elusive mushroom that grows mainly on birch trees. Unlike most mushroom, Chaga grows over many years and can often be 15-25 years old when harvested. Chaga is often mistaken for a burl or knot with a hard, black exterior that appears charred or burnt. The inside is rich orange and cork like in texture.

Chaga has been used for centuries as a folk medicine for a wide range of ailments. As a tea, Chaga is a complex source of nutrition linked to many health benefits. The Chaga mushroom is renowned for its high levels of antioxidants, beta glucans, phytonutrients, polysaccharides, minerals and vitamins. Chaga mushrooms also absorb a unique and beneficial compound from their birch tree host, called betulinic acid. Betulinic acid is an oxidation product of betulin, a triterpenoid, believed to have potent anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral properties.
